SAN DIEGO – Federal Aviation Administration confirmed Monday that they are investigating the death of a pilot at Gillespie Field from earlier this month.

A pilot was killed when he was struck in the head by a propeller at Gillespie Field on September 1, FAA spokesman Ian Gregor said. The incident happened in the morning.

“The pilot was performing an inspection of the plane in a ramp area when the accident occurred,” Gregor said.

The identity of the pilot and other details were not released by the FAA.
