SAN DIEGO — A 68-year-old man riding a bicycle suffered a broken hip Friday when he was struck by a pickup truck in San Diego’s Teralta West neighborhood.

The man was riding east on the sidewalk in the 4300 block of Orange Avenue about 5:20 p.m. when he crossed into an unmarked crosswalk, said San Diego police Officer Robert Heims.

“The driver of the truck made a left turn southbound (onto) 44th Street and hit the bicyclist,” Heims said.

The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, according to Heims, who said the crash did not appear to involve drugs or alcohol.

The pickup truck driver was a 69-year-old man, Heims said.
