SAN DIEGO – A new smartphone app launched Monday for those who like to go out in Downtown San Diego but don’t want to hunt for a parking place.

The app is called Zirx, and according to the company it works like a personal valet service for users. The app allows users to hand off their car keys to an agent who then parks the car at a secure parking lot nearby.

“I don’t need to look for parking anymore,” said app user Jacob Plaza. “Any time I am running out of time or running late, its super convenient."

The app launched in July 2014 in San Francisco and has since expanded to Los Angeles, Seattle and Washington, D.C. The service charges $15 per day for all day parking. The company offers a $2 million insurance policy for each car with extensive employee screening.

“They are trained and vetted, 7-year-background checks,  federal, state and local for criminal or driving records,” said growth development manager Skyler Logdson.

Similar to Uber, Zirx is the latest company to use mobile technology to enhance customer service.
