Cyclist killed by Amtrak train in North County

CARLSBAD, Calif. — A cyclist was killed by an Amtrak train Thursday night in Carlsbad, authorities said.

Around 7:25 p.m., a man rode his bicycle into the middle of the railroad tracks near Grand Avenue and Washington Street, according to San Diego County Sheriff’s Department. The train was traveling at approximately 63 miles per hour when it hit the man.

Medics transported the man to Tri-City Medical Center in Oceanside, where he died from his injuries.

A stretch of Grand Avenue was expected to be closed for several hours, police said.
