CARLSBAD, Calif. — A 46-year-old bicyclist was killed when a minivan hit him from behind while he was riding in a marked bicycle lane, authorities said Thursday.
The fatal crash happened shortly after 6:30 p.m. Wednesday along College Boulevard, north of Palomar Airport Road, Carlsbad police said.
The bicyclist, Eric Steven Glasnapp of Carlsbad, was wearing a helmet and riding northbound on College Boulevard abou ta mile north of Palomar Airport Road. The minivan, driven by a 34-year-old man, entered the bike lane and hit Glasnapp from behind, investigators said. Paramedics tried to resuscitate Glasnapp, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The minivan driver remained at the scene and was not suspected of being under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
A stretch of northbound College Boulevard was closed for about three hours after the crash.
