EL CAJON, Calif. – A man was fatally struck by a car while attempting to cross an El Cajon street mid-block, police said.

The victim apparently walked into the path of an eastbound Infiniti coupe on East Main Street near Ballard Street and was hit around 5:40 p.m. Thursday. Paramedics were unable to revive him and he died at the scene, according to an El Cajon police statement.

Police said the victim, a 49-year-old transient man, had been hit by a car two other times, most recently about a month ago.

The victim’s name was withheld pending family notification, police said.

The Infiniti’s driver, an El Cajon man, remained at the scene after the accident and was not suspected of driving under the influence. Police said he was cooperative during the investigation.
