SPRING VALLEY, Calif. — A parolee who allegedly took a pellet gun from a Spring Valley sporting goods store and used it to steal a woman’s car in a nearby parking lot was facing charges Monday.

Kevin Williams, 37, allegedly took the weapon and ammunition from Big 5 Sporting Goods at 9805 Campo Road around 7:15 p.m. Sunday and threatened an employee on his way out, sheriff’s Sgt. David Toner said.

About 15 minutes later, he threatened a woman in the parking lot of the Albertsons store at 9831 Campo Road and took her white Ford Taurus, Toner said. The car was involved in a hit-and-run crash at Dehesa and Harbison Canyon roads about 20 minutes after it was stolen.

Toner said the Taurus was later found parked at the Sycuan Casino. Sycuan police officers detained Williams and turned him over to responding sheriff’s deputies after he was identified in a curbside lineup, Toner said.

Toner said Williams was arrested and booked into jail on suspicion of carjacking and robbery. He is also named in a felony warrant.
