SAN DIEGO — A panhandler stabbed a 34-year-old man in the back outside a 7-Eleven in the Midway District of San Diego Sunday night after the victim refused to hand over some money when asked, police said.

The victim had just left the store at 3185 Midway Drive about 5:30 p.m. when he was attacked, San Diego police Officer Robert Heims said.

The man was taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, Heims said.

The suspect remained at large. He was described as a black man in his 50s who is 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighs 185 pounds.

He has black hair, black eyes and a shaved head but unshaven face. He was wearing a black backpack, a dark jacket and black jeans.

Anyone with information about the attack was urged to call San Diego police.
