NATIONAL CITY, Calif. – A master chief petty officer of the U.S. Navy died Monday after a motorcycle was run over by a truck, authorities confirmed.
An official with the Navy confirmed the motorcyclist’s title, but did not release the identity.
Traffic backed up in the South Bay during the morning commute Monday after a motorcyclist was hit by a truck, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The CHP issued a Sig Alert after the crash, which occurred at about 6:15 a.m. on the southbound Interstate 5 at 8th Street. The rider went down in the southbound lanes and was subsequently struck by a truck, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The CHP closed three southbound lanes and the 8th Street on-ramp to the southbound I-5 was also closed during the investigation, the CHP said. Traffic was severely backed during the busiest portion of the morning commute.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
