SAN DIEGO — A motorcyclist was seriously injured when he crashed into the back of an SUV that was stopped in traffic near Ski Beach in Mission Bay, police said Wednesday.

The accident happened a little before 8:20 p.m. Tuesday when the 43- year-old rider was southbound on Ingraham Street after crossing the bridge from Pacific Beach toward Ski Beach, San Diego Police Officer John Buttle said.

“He didn’t notice traffic had stopped” in front of him and he “ran into the back of an SUV,” Buttle said. The rider sustained a serious injury but was hospitalized and expected to survive.

Officers from the SDPD traffic division are investigating the crash and do not believe alcohol was a factor, Buttle said.
