Fatal crash throws motorcyclist, passenger onto road

SAN DIEGO — A motorcyclist died after he and his passenger were thrown into the road during a crash near Pala Mesa Saturday evening.

Officials with the North County Fire Department said the motorcyclist crashed near the Interstate 15 and State Route 76 merger.

A teenager from Temecula was driving with two passengers in a 2010 Honda Pilot along eastbound SR-76 at about 6:20 p.m. The driver was turning onto northbound I-15 when he crashed into a 2008 Harley-Davidson approaching the intersection from westbound SR-76, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Both the motorcyclist and his female passenger were thrown from the vehicle.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead, Officer Kevin Smale with CHP said. The 43-year-old woman who was riding with him was taken to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido for treatment of her injuries.

Neither the driver of the Honda Pilot nor his passengers were injured in the crash. Smale said alcohol and drugs were not considered to be a factor in the crash.

The collision was under investigation Saturday night.
