SAN DIEGO — A man was in custody Tuesday on suspicion of beating and stabbing an acquaintance inside his apartment in Normal Heights during a fight over a missing wallet, police said.

The fight at 4515 Bancroft was reported at 8:18 p.m. Monday, according to San Diego police Officer Dino Delimitros.

The suspect was partying in the victim’s apartment when he noticed his wallet was missing and blamed the host, Delimitros said in a statement.

“The guest/suspect hit the victim in the head several times with his skateboard, then armed himself with a butcher knife from the kitchen,” Delimitros said. “He told the victim he was going to kill him, then stabbed him in the side of his torso.”

The victim eventually ran outside and held the door to his apartment shut, trapping the suspect inside until officers arrived. Police said the victim’s injuries were not life-threatening.
