SAN DIEGO — A man was stabbed in the face and arm during an argument that broke out at an East Village trolley station Monday night, police said.

The San Diego Police Department said one man was riding a scooter when he bumped into a man boarding a trolley around 11 p.m. on the Imperial Avenue platform at 12th Avenue, about a block away from Petco Park. The suspect pulled a knife on the person he bumped into, who then pulled his own knife in self-defense.

During the fight that ensued, the person who was initially bumped stabbed the suspect in his face and arm.

Police said the suspect was taken to a hospital to treat his injuries while the other man stayed at the scene and cooperated with police. The status of the suspect’s injuries was not immediately known.

A man was stabbed at the same trolley station in 2018 after he pet a passenger’s dog without his permission. The victim was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injures.
