LAKESIDE, Calif. — A man was shot in the arm while driving in Lakeside Monday evening, authorities said.

The victim, a white man in his 20s, was driving onto the Winter Gardens Boulevard on-ramp to southbound state Route 67 when he was shot shortly before 6 p.m. He was awake and breathing when he was taken to a hospital in stable condition.

Good Samaritans pulled over and rendered first aid to the victim while they waited for paramedics to arrive.

The shooting caused a minor collision with another car, but no one else was injured, deputies said.

“At this point I don’t know how many shots were fired,” Sgt. Amber Reeves told FOX 5. “It appeared that the victim was injured in the left arm.”

Reeves said it was unclear if this was a case of road rage, or if the victim and shooter knew each other prior to the shooting.

Detectives are searching for the suspect, described as a black man driving a white four-door sedan, possibly a Chevrolet Impala.

California Highway Patrol officers shut down the onramp for the investigation.
