SAN DIEGO — Police were investigating a shooting at a high-rise apartment complex in downtown San Diego Monday morning, said officials.

The shooting happened at the Strata apartments located at the intersection of Market Street and Tenth Avenue.

Firefighters responded to calls of shots fired around 5:45 a.m. and found a man wounded inside an  apartment on the fourth floor, San Diego Fire-Rescue confirmed.

Police officers were directed to an apartment unit upon arrival and found a 30-year-old black man suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body, said San Diego Police Lieutenant Anthony Dupree.

Officers performed life-saving efforts on the victim until paramedics arrived.

The gunshot victim was taken to a hospital with injuries that were considered life-threatening, Lt. Depree said. Authorities told FOX 5 that the man is not expected to survive.

“We do not have a suspect description at this time, but we are interviewing a ton of witnesses, but no one is in custody,” Depree said.

Police are not releasing the victim’s identity at this time.
