SAN DIEGO — An 18-year-old man allegedly robbed a gas station in the San Carlos neighborhood at knifepoint Saturday, but was later arrested.

The suspect — identified by police as Juan Gomez — walked into the USA gas station at 8787 Lake Murray Blvd., at Navajo Road, shortly after 4:30 a.m. He flashed an 8-inch military-style knife and demanded money from an employee, San Diego police Officer Frank Cali said.

The suspect left the store with money and other items, Cali said.

Police caught up to Gomez at a nearby apartment complex where he was hiding and arrested him, Cali said. He was booked into jail on suspicion of robbery and possession of a controlled substance, according to police and jail records.
