SAN DIEGO — Police detained three people Monday night after a City Heights cellphone store was robbed at gunpoint.

The break-in happened around 7:45 p.m. at a Sprint store in the 4300 block of University Avenue, according to San Diego police. During the heist, at least two people demanded cellphones, cash and other products from employees and demanded them to open a storage closet.

No customers were inside the store at the time, but several witnesses were in the nearby parking lot.

A black Dodge Challenger without license plates was spotted leaving the scene, headed eastbound on University Avenue. An officer followed the car to a Mobil gas station in the 4200 block of Camino Del Rio North in the Grantville neighborhood. Officers detained three “people of interest” inside the car for questioning.

No arrests have been made.
