Armed standoff at East County apartment complex ends peacefully

EL CAJON, Calif. -- An hour-long standoff involving dozens of heavily armed police officers ended Thursday afternoon when officers arrested a domestic violence suspect who had barricaded himself inside an apartment.

The standoff began around 1 p.m. after the man locked himself inside an apartment at Dorothy Street and Jamacha Road around 1 p.m., authorities said. Multiple police units arrived outside the building and officers blocked off the end of the street as they took up positions behind an SUV facing the building.

Details on the arrest and the family disturbance that initially sent officers to the neighborhood southeast of downtown El Cajon were not immediately available.
