POWAY, Calif. - A high-speed chase ended with an SUV crashing into a home in Poway Sunday.

No one was injured inside, but the driver ran away, according to witnesses.  The crash happened on Coyotero Drive.

“We got out of bed, opened the door, looked in and there is a car steaming in our office,” said homeowner Kevin Burgess.

Burgess said the vehicle was a white Toyota 4 Runner and the crash happened at 3:30 a.m. Sunday.

“Normally, I would be right there [sitting in the office] an hour later and I would have been killed instantly," said Burgess.

According to reports, the driver of the SUV was attempting to get away from officers with the California Highway Patrol in a high speed chase. The car reached speeds over 100 miles per hour. A CHP officer lost sight of the driver after he pulled off Interstate 15 and into Burgess’ neighborhood.

“It was God's grace that kept us safe,” said Burgess.

Next door neighbor Clint Le also was awakened by the crash. He told FOX 5 that he feels lucky it wasn’t his own home, but grateful their neighbors escaped injury.

“I mean it could have been a bedroom, could have been really bad," said Le.

Burgess told FOX 5 he’s confident with surveillance video he handed over to CHP they will catch the driver they are looking for.

“They have blood, dog tracking, they have live video and police were less than 30 seconds behind them. They have everything they need,” said Burgess.
