Man killed after car hits pole, overturns

SAN DIEGO — A 21-year-old motorist was killed Saturday when he made a U-turn in a parking lot, struck a steel pole and overturned.

His passenger, a 19-year-old woman, suffered non-life threatening injuries and was rushed to an area hospital, said Officer Robert Heims of the San Diego Police Department. The driver was pinned under his 2010 Honda Accord and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash occurred at 3:17 a.m. in the parking lot of the Alvarado Medical Center, 6505 Alvarado Road, Heims said.
