Man killed on East County highway

LEMON GROVE, Calif. — A man died Wednesday night after he was hit on a highway in Lemon Grove, authorities said.

The collision happened around 8:45 p.m. on eastbound state Route 94 near College Avenue when the man walked directly into the path of a 27-year-old woman driving a 2010 Nissan Altima, California Highway Patrol officials said. The driver swerved to the left but was unable to avoid the pedestrian. The man was then hit several more times by as many as five vehicles.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. It was not yet known whether he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

The driver of the Nissan, who was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol, remained at the scene to cooperate with the investigation.
