SAN DIEGO – A man was in the hospital Wednesday morning after being hit by an SUV while jaywalking in Talmadge, San Diego police said.

The man in his 60s had just crossed the double yellow lines on El Cajon Boulevard at 50th Street when he was hit by the Chevy Trailblazer around 2:30 a.m. He flew onto the hood of the SUV and cracked the lower right area of the windshield despite the driver’s best efforts to avoid hitting the man.

The driver, 28, stopped and was cooperating with the investigation, according to police.

The man’s hat and shoes were found several feet away from the site of the accident and he was taken to Scripps Mercy hospital with serious injuries. El Cajon Boulevard was closed between Altadena Avenue and 50th Street during the investigation.

Drugs and alcohol were not believed to be a factor.
