OCEANSIDE, Calif. — A young man was found fatally stabbed Thursday afternoon on a street near Buccaneer Beach.
Officers responding to a report of a possible hit-and-run traffic accident in the 100 block of Wisconsin Avenue found 32-year-old Joseph Prince lying on the roadway at 3:45 p.m.
“Closer examination revealed the victim had been stabbed and was unconscious,” Lt. Leonard Cosby said.
He died at the scene, despite medics’ attempts to resuscitate him.
A witness told investigators the attacker might have been a man seen riding out of the area to the north on a black “beach cruiser” bicycle, the lieutenant said. He was described as a white man of about 30 wearing a red baseball cap and blue jeans. Police believe the attacker is a local and most likely knew the victim.
Witnesses say there was a large screwdriver left at the scene of the crime.
Anyone with information on the possible suspect was asked to call police at 760-435-4428.
