Man walks across border after pistol whipping in Mexico

OTAY MESA, Calif. — A man found at the Otay Mesa border crossing with what was initially thought to be a gunshot wound to his head turned out to have been pistol-whipped in Mexico, police said Wednesday.

The victim was assaulted then walked across to the U.S. side of the border near Via de la Amistad around 8 p.m., San Diego police Officer Dino Delimitros said.

He was taken to a hospital to be treated for his injury, which was not considered life-threatening, Delimitros said.
