CHULA VISTA, Calif. — Surveillance photos were made public Wednesday in hopes of locating a man who pulled a gun on security guards who caught him shoplifting at a Target store in Chula Vista.

The unidentified suspect was seen pocketing merchandise while shopping at the store on Broadway near Palomar Street with a female companion the night of July 25. Chula Vista police said the pair left without paying.

When the store’s loss prevention offices confronted the man as he stepped outside, he drew a black semi-automatic handgun, which may have had a silencer on the barrel, and pointed it at the security personnel, police said.

Both the man and woman ran off, but she was later arrested, police said. Her name and the charges against her were not immediately available.

Anyone with information on the male suspect’s identity or whereabouts was asked to call police at (619) 691-5091 or (619) 691-5151. Anonymous tips can be submitted via email on the police department’s or Crime Stoppers’ website, or by calling (888) 580-8477.
