POWAY, Calif. – After receiving dozens of tips, sheriff’s deputies say they have arrested a man suspected of robbing a 75-year-old woman in Poway.

Surveillance photos released from September 12 show a man snatching the woman’s purse while she was in a Walmart parking lot on Community Road. Nearly 50 tips came in after the photos were released, authorities said.

Christian ‘Cody’ Silva, 22, was arrested and is facing robbery charges, authorities said.

A woman named Virginia is the victim.

“Every time I think about it my heart just pounds. I mean I don’t have any heart conditions, but believe me, that almost put me into one,” she told FOX 5.

She said she was putting groceries in her car when Silva grabbed her purse and took off on a skateboard. People chased after him as she borrowed someone's phone to call 911.

“There was all kinds of people after him so he came back and threw my purse in the intersection,” Virginia said.

She said he got away, but only with a couple of bucks.

“This man was stupid to take a chance on two dollars,” Virginia said.

Virginia said she is relieved he has been caught and is now sharing her traumatizing experience in hopes others learn from it.

“I want them to know don’t wear your purse on your shoulder," she said. "Put it across your body, or like me, now I don’t even carry a purse. Everything’s in my pockets."

Silva is in jail on $100,000 dollars bail.
