SAN DIEGO — A man who allegedly grabbed a stranger by the throat near Belmont Park Friday and then stabbed her because he was upset by her smoking, was arrested a short time later on suspicion of attempted murder, authorities reported.
The alleged assault in the 3000 block of Mission Boulevard was reported shortly after 10:30 a.m., according to San Diego police.
Patrol personnel arrived to find the 54-year-old woman suffering from a small laceration to the left side of her chest and abrasions to her neck.
Arrested at the scene was 70-year-old Terrance Alphonce Behan, SDPD Officer Frank Cali said. Behan was booked into San Diego Central Jail and was being held without bail pending arraignment, scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.
