SAN DIEGO – A man robbed a City Heights jewelry store Tuesday morning after smashing a display case.

The suspect walked into Eclipse Jewelry store on University Avenue around 10:30 a.m. and got away with five gold rings worth about $1,000, according to owner Arturo Carrera.

“The guy came in grabbing something in his right hand and saying in Spanish, in poor Spanish, ‘qué pasó, qué pasó,’ moved and then smashed the showcase,” Carrera said.

An alarm was activated. After taking the rings, the suspect ran to a parking lot behind the store, jumped into a car and drove off. He was reportedly met by another man nearby, whose car he then jumped into.

Carrera told FOX 5 this is the second time his store has been robbed since it opened 14 years ago.
