SAN DIEGO — A person was killed in a shooting that prompted a police standoff Monday in the Chollas View neighborhood, the San Diego Police Department said.

The incident was first reported around 6:10 a.m. near the 730 block of 44th Street.

The shooting was believed to have stemmed from an argument between two neighbors over loud noise that escalated to one neighbor shooting the other, according to SDPD.

When authorities arrived to the scene, they found a 33-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to his chest, Lt. Steve Sheblosksi with the San Diego Police Homicide Unit told FOX 5. He was taken to a local hospital where he died of his injuries.

A SWAT team was called out to assist and were able to clear the residence, but the shooter was not found inside, Sheblosksi said. However, authorities were able to locate the suspected shooter, a 49-year-old Eugen Martinez of San Diego, in a parking lot in the 5000 block of Balboa Avenue, where he was arrested without incident.

Martinez was booked into jail on suspicion of one count of murder, Sheblosksi confirmed.

Officers also detained a 51-year-old woman who was found with the suspected shooter, police said. She was detained for questioning.

Classes were canceled Monday at nearby America’s Finest Charter School after a brief precautionary lockdown due to the police activity, according to SDPD.

The incident is now being investigated as a homicide.
