CARLSBAD – Police turned to the public Monday night in hopes of finding witnesses after a woman’s body was found on a trail at a Carlsbad park.

Police said someone walking along a footpath at Hosp Grove Park found the woman’s body off Hosp Grove Trail East around 11:15 a.m. As of Monday night, the medical examiner still had not released the woman’s name, age or cause of death. Police said it appeared suspicious.

“I see people back there all the time,” neighbor Lisa Jones said. “They’re taking wedding photos and really enjoying the area. So, it’s surprising.”

Another neighbor said officers went door-to-door trying to find surveillance footage.

“This is so scary, and I’m not someone to get riled up,” Carolyn, who didn’t want to give her last name, said. “All the neighbors are freaked out because everybody walks their dogs there.”

She lives about a block away from where police investigated. She said her 15-year-old daughter was walking in the park around 10:30 a.m., an hour before the 911 call was made.

Officers closed nearby Monroe Street between Hosp Way and Marron Road for hours.

Not knowing how the woman died, and with police still looking for witnesses, Jones still felt comfortable walking her dog Monday night.

“I know it’s suspicious, but I don’t want to jump to any conclusions,” she said.
