SAN DIEGO — A man was found dead Tuesday after reports of gunshots in the Encanto neighborhood, authorities said.

San Diego police received a call around 9:16 p.m. about a shooting at 62nd Street and Atkins Avenue, located near the 62nd Street light rail station, a SDPD official told FOX 5.

When police arrived to the scene, they found a man face down with an apparent gunshot wound to his upper body. At that time, officers began to administer CPR on the victim until paramedics and San Diego Fire-Rescue personnel arrived 

Despite life-saving efforts, the man was pronounced deceased at the scene at 9:33 p.m. His identity is being withheld at this time. However, police described him as a 23-year-old black male.

San Diego Police Homicide Detectives were called to the scene and are currently investigating the incident. Detectives are searching the area for any physical evidence, surveillance video and any witnesses who might be able to provide more information on the events leading up to the shooting death of the male.
