SAN DIEGO – A man is dead after he was stabbed in the East Village neighborhood, according to the San Diego Police Department.
The call came in just before 7:30 p.m. Sunday, with the incident taking place east of Petco Park, near Imperial avenue and 17th street, Lt. Jud Campbell said in a news release.
Upon arrival, officers found a man in the roadway with multiple stab wounds to his chest, police said. He was later pronounced dead at the scene of the stabbing.
One man, identified by police as 57-year-old Paul Bellow, was been taken into custody near the scene of the attack.
Bellow was arrested on suspicion of murder, criminal threats, brandishing a weapon and burglary, Campbell said.
The victim was identified only as a 41-year-old Hispanic man. His name has not yet been publicly released.
Both the victim and the suspect were believed by police to have been homeless at the time of the attack.
According to preliminary investigation, detectives believe that Bellow had entered a woman’s tent in the 100 block of 17th street, punching the woman and threatening her with a knife, Campbell said.
Shortly after, Bellow is suspected of getting into a physical altercation with the suspect, stabbing him multiple times.
