SAN DIEGO — A driver was killed early Wednesday in a crash in the Carmel Mountain Ranch area.
The crash happened just before 1:15 a.m. on northbound Carmel Mountain Road, near Camino del Norte, according to San Diego police.
The driver was speeding when the sedan hit a center median, went across all northbound lanes, hit a curb and slammed into a tree, Officer Scott Lockwood said. The car split in two. Parts of the mangled car, including the engine, were strewn about the scene.
The driver was thrown from the Acura, according to OnScene TV, and died at the scene.
