CHULA VISTA, Calif. — A person was found dead in an overturned vehicle on Wednesday, said the Chula Vista Police Department.
Shortly before 10 a.m., police said a city-contracted landscaping employee reported seeing a broken fence along the north side of Telegraph Canyon Road and an upside-down vehicle in a drainage ditch, partially submerged in water.
Responding officers and fire officials found a 2005 Ford Explorer on the 700 block of Telegraph Canyon Road, about 300 feet west of Paseo Ladera.
Police said the vehicle was submerged to the point that officers were unable to safely open the doors to check inside. The San Diego Lifeguard River Rescue Team was called in to assist.
The vehicle was pulled out of the water around 12 p.m. and police said a deceased female was found inside the vehicle.
All westbound traffic was temporarily closed on Telegraph Canyon Road from Paseo Ladera to Medical Center Drive as authorities investigated the incident and removed the vehicle from the drainage ditch. The roadway has since been reopened, according to police.
Anyone that witnessed the collision or has additional information has been asked to contact the Chula Vista Police Department Traffic Bureau at 619-476-5320 or San Diego County Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
