SAN DIEGO – A woman was found dead of unknown causes Tuesday morning in the Little Italy area.

The discovery was reported shortly before 8:30 a.m. in the 2100 block of State Street, according to San Diego police. Upon arrival, officers confirmed that a woman was deceased in a grey plastic trash can, San Diego police Lt. Andra Brown said in a news release.

The woman has not been identified by police, according to Brown. She was described as being white, aged between her 20s and 30s and wearing a black sweater and black jeans. Brown said the woman appeared to be homeless.

Detectives from the department’s Homicide Unit were called to the area Tuesday and are investigating. They’re currently in the process of collecting evidence and trying to locate any potential witnesses, according to Brown.

“It is still early in the investigation and detectives have no information about the circumstances surrounding the death,” she said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Homicide Unit at 619-531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
