SAN DIEGO — One person was shot Wednesday night at a Mission Beach hotel party and three more people were hurt when they crashed trying to escape police, authorities said.

The shooting was reported just after 10 p.m. at the Bahia Resort Hotel on West Mission Bay Drive, according to the San Diego Police Department.

Investigators determined a party was held in a hotel room and was attended by members of a street gang, Officer Tony Martinez said. Four men from a rival gang arrived at the party and began shooting, striking a 25-year-old man in the chest. He was taken to a hospital to be treated for injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.

Police spotted a silver Hyundai Elantra trying to leave the scene with its lights off. When the Hyundai refused to stop for officers, police began chasing it, Martinez said. The car then crashed into a brick wall near the intersection of Mission Boulevard and Grand Avenue.

Four people were inside the car. The 22-year-old male driver, a 20-year-old male passenger and an 18-year-old male passenger were taken to a hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries. They were each expected to be arrested once they were medically cleared.

A fourth person was uninjured and ran off, officers said, though they tracked him down a short time later. He was identified as 20-year-old Calvin Landry and booked into San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, being a felon in possession of a handgun and participating in a criminal street gang, according to jail records.

A witness who told FOX 5 he called the police about the incident said he heard people arguing before someone opened fire, then saw Landry trying to escape following the crash.
