ESCONDIDO, Calif. – When it comes to craft beer, San Diego is slowly but surely making its way to the top.
Stone Brewing Co. of Escondido was ranked 10th largest craft beer maker nationwide by a trade group Wednesday.
“We’ve made a beer that people think is worth seeking out,” said Koch.
The company first opened in San Marcos in 1996.
Since then, San Diego has seen a boom in the craft beer industry generating other names worth of national recognition.
The Brewers Association ranking of the top 50-beer makers, based on sales volume, also included 39th ranked Karl Strauss and Ballast Point, 46th.
Koch said it’s craft beer camaraderie that’s helping turn San Diego into the Napa Valley of beer.
“You can find our beer on tap at other brewery restaurants and you’ll find other beer on tap at our restaurant,” said Koch.
Success also means jobs.
Stone Brewery Co. has 555 employees currently working in the company’s 55,000 sq. ft. plant. And a soon to come expansion is expected to create nearly 250 new jobs.
