LOS ANGELES -- A La Mesa man was one of the victims killed in a double shooting in northern Los Angeles on Sunday, the Los Angeles County coroner's office said Monday.

Jerrad Cardae Scott, 24, of La Mesa, and an unnamed 22-year-old woman died after police say they were shot multiple times in an apartment building near Saticoy Street and Oso Avenue in Winnetka on Sunday.

Police initially responded to a report of a domestic disturbance after neighbors called 911 around 4:30 p.m. to report shots fired, according to Los Angeles Police Department Capt. Alan Hamilton.

"It was like, maybe eight shots ... one after the other," said neighbor Lisa Lyons, adding she reported the shooting to police.

Scott and the female victim were both pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman's identity was known, but her name would not be released until her next of kin was notified, according to coroner's Lt. Fred Corral. He said she was from Los Angeles.

Lyons told KTLA the woman's first name was Emily, and that she was a student at Cal State Northridge who wanted to go into law enforcement.

LAPD officials said the two were "victims of a shooter," and do not suspect the incident was a murder-suicide.

A shooter has not been arrested, according to the captain. No detailed description was available.

An investigation into the homicides remained ongoing.
