SANTEE, Calif. — Authorities Tuesday identified the jogger who was killed by a suspected DUI driver in Santee as 41-year-old Susana Gotell.

Around 6:40 p.m., 46-year-old Michael Woodfill was driving eastbound in the 1100 block of North Woodside Avenue when his 2017 Chevrolet work truck drifted off the street and hit a chain link fence, according to California Highway Patrol. As he tried to turn his truck back towards the left, he went across the eastbound and westbound lanes. His truck hit the jogger before it went down a dirt embankment and overturned.

Gotell was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital, where she died from her injuries.

The driver stayed at the scene and officers determined he was under the influence of alcohol. He was booked into San Diego County Jail for DUI, vehicular manslaughter and first-degree murder. According to CHP, Woodfill had at least one prior DUI and was on probation at the time of the wreck. Online records show Woodfill is the owner of a company called Dolphin Plumbing.

FOX 5 spoke to Gotell’s husband, who told us she was a mother of a 16 and 18-year-old. The family is asking for their privacy at this time.

A GoFundMe campaign is collecting contributions to help support Gotell’s family.
