ESCONDIDO, Calif. — A 67-year-old man was in custody Monday after he walked into a police station and confessed to stabbing to death his wife of more than 40 years in their Escondido home, authorities said.

Escondido husband admits to killing wife, police sayAbdul Rehman Ibrahim walked into Escondido police headquarters around 3:30 a.m. Sunday and volunteered that he had “killed his wife with a knife,” according to Escondido police Lt. Neal Griffin.

Officers then went to the couple’s home at 1165 Catspaw Place, where they found a woman fatally stabbed, apparently as she slept in her bed, Griffin said in a statement. Police later identified the victim as 64-year-old Shambanoo Ibrahim and said she was stabbed numerous times in her upper body.

“There were no signs of forced entry or a struggle of any kind,” Griffin said. “Abdul and Shambanoo Ibrahim have resided in the home for many years and were married for more than 40 years.”

The suspect was booked into the Vista jail on suspicion of first-degree murder. He could be arraigned as early as Tuesday afternoon, according to jail records, which showed Ibrahim being held without bail.
