IMPERIAL BEACH, Calif. -- U.S. Border Patrol agents found human remains in the Tijuana River not far from the U.S.-Mexico border Saturday morning, according to the San Diego Police Department.
Agents spotted the remains around 8:15 a.m. in the river near the Las Americas Premium Outlets.
Police said it looked as though the body had been in the river for a while and might have been carried across the border by the current.
There were no clear signs of trauma to the body, officers said.
"It is possible the body was carried by the Tijuana River across the border into the United States," said Acting Lt. Michelle Velovich of the San Diego Police Department.
The body was not immediately identified. The San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office was expected to perform an autopsy Sunday.
The SDPD Homicide Unit was investigating and asked anyone with information to contact them at 619-531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
