SAN DIEGO — A 16-year-old boy was killed Thursday evening in a shooting in the Linda Vista neighborhood of San Diego, prompting an investigation by homicide detectives, police said.
The shooting happened just after 6 p.m. in the 6500 block of Kelly Street, according to San Diego police. The boy was outside when he “became involved in a confrontation with a male suspect driving a vehicle,” police said. The driver shot the boy and drove away, police said.
The boy’s friends took him to the hospital, where he died from at least one gunshot wound to his upper body, police said.
Police described the suspect as a heavyset Asian man, between 28 and 32 years old, wearing a white shirt and a red and white baseball hat. He was driving a tan or gold-colored four-door sedan, possibly a Honda or Toyota, with a black stripe.
Anyone with information about the incident should call the SDPD Homicide Unit at 619-531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
