SAN DIEGO — Homicide detectives Friday were investigating the death of a 53-year-old woman who was found by her daughter inside her City Heights home. The victim’s adult daughter called 911 shortly before 8:05 p.m. Thursday to report that she had found her mother injured and unresponsive inside a residence on Estrella Avenue between University and Polk avenues, according to San Diego police. Officers arrived at the home and found the 53-year-old woman inside with traumatic injuries to her upper body, Lt. Chris Tivanian said. The woman, whose name was not immediately available, was pronounced dead at the scene, Tivanian said. Investigators learned that the woman’s adult daughter became concerned when she was unable to contact her mother by phone then went to her mother’s residence and found her gravely injured, the lieutenant said. No suspect descriptions were immediately available. Diana Contreras said police questioned her and she told them what she overheard early Wednesday morning. “I just heard a man screaming from the top of his lungs and I don’t know what he was saying. I was going to take a look but I was scared. I never heard a female voice though. It was always a man screaming. And he was screaming for about two minutes or so and then everything just stayed quiet.” Nearby residents say they are nervous knowing a killer is on the run. “We’re walking on the streets and we could be walking right next to him and we wouldn’t know. Our lives are in danger and we wouldn’t know,” Contreras said. Family members say the woman was also a grandmother and sister. A GoFundMe page has been set up to assist the family. Anyone with information about the slaying was urged to call the SDPD homicide unit at 619-531-2293, or the San Diego County Crime Stoppers’ anonymous tip line at 888-580-8477.
