LEMON GROVE, Calif. -- A hit-and-run driver killed a woman in Lemon Grove, but he returned about an hour later and was arrested, a sheriff's sergeant said Sunday.

The victim may have been running along Massachusetts Avenue near Mount Vernon Street when she was struck by a northbound vehicle around 7:40 p.m. Saturday, according to sheriff's Sgt. Michelle McPhail. She died at the scene.

McPhail said the uninjured driver, identified on Sunday as 46-year-old Guillermo Alvarado-Soler, initially left the scene, but returned and was taken into custody around an hour later.

Sheriff's officials say drugs and alcohol were not factors in the crash.
