SAN DIEGO -- A speeding motorcyclist led police on a freeway chase from Mira Mesa to North Park early Tuesday, but the pursuit ended abruptly when he crashed into a car.

California Highway Patrol officers attempted to pull the blue Suzuki motorcycle over for a speed violation on southbound Interstate 5 in Encinitas around 1:33 a.m., but the rider would not stop, according to the CHP.

The high-speed chase continued south along Interstate 805 until the motorcycle collided with a car near the exit to University Avenue. The rider was arrested and taken to a hospital to be treated for injuries suffered in the crash, CHP officials said.

The driver of the car the motorcyclist rear-ended was apparently unhurt.
