SAN DIEGO — Ondrej Kase scored the lone shootout goal to give the San Diego Gulls a 3-2 victory over the Ontario Reign Friday night at Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario in the first American Hockey League preseason game for both teams.

The Gulls took a 2-0 lead as Bryan Moore scored two minutes, 45 seconds into the first period and Harry Zolnierczyk added a power-play goal at 5:22 of the second period.

Ontario, the Los Angeles Kings AHL affiliate, tied the score 2-2 as defenseman Alex Roach scored at 17:28 of the second period and Valentin Zykov had a power-play goal at 11:54 of the third period.

Neither team scored during the five-minute, three-on-three overtime, with the Reign taking seven shots on Gulls goaltender Matt Hackett, including a breakaway by Zykov, forcing the shootout.

Kase, a 19-year-old right wing from the Czech Republic who was chosen in the seventh round of the 2014 NHL draft by the Gulls parent team, the Anaheim Ducks, scored the lone shootout goal.

Hackett stopped all three Reign shots in the shootout.

Hackett made 30 saves. Michael Houser made 25 for the Reign.

The teams will conclude preseason play Monday at Honda Center in Anaheim.

The Gulls and Reign were among five AHL teams to move to California in the off-season.

The Gulls will begin practicing in San Diego Thursday and open their season Oct. 10 by facing the Grand Rapid Griffins, the Detroit Red Wings AHL affiliate, at the Valley View Casino Center.
