SAN DIEGO -- Nearly 500,000 people live in poverty in San Diego County and will face the threat of hunger this holiday season.
That means empty kitchen cabinets, missed meals and hungry children.
You can help families in need by visiting your local Vons supermarket and donating a $7 pre-filled bag of food to the San Diego Food Bank at checkout. Then place the bag in the red food drive barrels at the front of the store on your way out.
The San Diego Food Bank is the largest hunger-relief organization in San Diego County. Last year, the Food Bank distributed 22 million pounds of food, serving about 400,000 people per month in San Diego County.
For every $1 donation, the Food Bank can provide five meals to families in need.
The Food Bank operates a number of monthly food programs. Some of our programs have income restrictions and others are open to everyone. If you or anyone you know needs food assistance, click here for more information.
