EL CAJON, Calif. – The Otay Water District worked to shut off a broken water main in front of Valhalla High School Wednesday morning.
Residents in El Cajon noticed a geyser shooting into the air around 9:15 a.m. Otay Water crews arrived at the scene around 9:30 and managed to slow the gushing water, eventually stopping the flow of water around 10 a.m.
The Otay Water District was investigating to determine what caused the 12-inch concrete steel pipe to burst.
At least 50 homes were affected by the break, which occurred on Hillsdale Road. At least one lane remained closed near Valhalla High School while workers repaired the break.
Valhalla High School was unaffected.
