Fugitive shooting suspect arrested in San Ysidro hotel

SAN DIEGO – A man wanted for an attempted murder earlier this month was arrested Monday after U.S. Marshals tracked him to a hotel near the U.S.-Mexico border.

Alejandro Gutierrez, 38, was arrested by members of a U.S. Marshals Fugitive Apprehension Team Monday afternoon at the Knights Inn at 230 Via de San Ysidro, according to a Chula Vista police statement. He is a suspect in an attempted homicide shooting in Chula Vista April 2. He faces charges including attempted murder, carrying a loaded firearm in public and gang offenses.

Marshals spotted Gutierrez on Thursday in the vicinity of Second Avenue and Palomar Street in Chula Vista, but he escaped on foot.
