OCEANSIDE, Calif. – Two people were airlifted to the hospital after their SUV rolled over and smashed into a fence Sunday, police said.

Oceanside police responded to the crash at 7 p.m. on North Avenue, near Temple Heights Drive  and found a silver SUV upside-down and against a backyard fence.

Two people were trapped inside and needed to be rescued from the wreckage by North County Fire Department.  Mercy Air transported them to Scripps La Jolla with major injuries.

Investigators said speed could have been a factor in the crash, but they do not think alcohol was involved.

Neighbors said the crash is a familiar scene.

"It happens quite frequently here. Normally what happens is that there's a curve. I think they come too fast and lose control," said neighbor Caesar Perez.
